You were built to survive. Now you are learning how to lead.
SAPPHIRE87 empowers adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking to move from crisis to self-sufficiency through trauma-informed nervous system healing, self-leadership development, and evidence-based body-centered programming.
About Sapphire87
SAPPHIRE87 is a trauma-informed self-leadership and nervous system healing program for adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. We fill the gap between crisis intervention and long-term self-sufficiency — providing the structured, body-based healing that helps survivors move from surviving to thriving. Medicaid accepted in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia.
SAPPHIRE87 is a 501(c)(3) trauma-informed self-leadership and nervous system healing organization founded and led by Charlotte A. McDowell, MBA, BBA — a trauma survivor, Certified Master Life Coach, and Certified Human Trafficking Professional who built this program from lived experience.
We serve adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking across Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia — specifically addressing the gap that most survivor services leave unfilled. Survivors who have completed crisis programming are safe. But safety is not the same as freedom. The nervous system continues to run threat responses long after the danger has passed — responses that cost survivors jobs, housing, relationships, and forward momentum. SAPPHIRE87 addresses the neurobiological root of that reality.
Our signature six-week Roaring Resilience program delivers structured, body-based healing grounded in four evidence-informed clinical frameworks: Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems, Emotional Intelligence, and Somatic Healing. Participants develop practical nervous system regulation tools, emotional intelligence, and identity reclamation skills they can use in daily life — not just in a clinical setting.
SAPPHIRE87 is Medicaid-credentialed in all four service states (NPI: 1194679159) and accepts select major medical insurance and private pay. We are committed to ensuring that cost is never a barrier to healing for the survivors we serve.

You were built to survive. Now you are learning how to lead.
SAPPHIRE87 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the critical gap between crisis intervention and long-term survivor self-sufficiency. Through our signature six-week Roaring Resilience program, we provide adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking with the practical, body-based tools they need to regulate their nervous systems, reclaim their identities, and lead themselves into the lives that survival was supposed to make possible. Our program is grounded in Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems, Emotional Intelligence, and Somatic Healing — evidence-informed frameworks that address trauma where it actually lives: in the body. We accept Medicaid in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia, ensuring that healing is accessible regardless of income. SAPPHIRE87 was founded by Charlotte A. McDowell, MBA, BBA — a trauma survivor who built the program she needed and could not find.
About Me
I revel in the beauty of hindsight.
The beauty of growth.
The beauty of being set free.
I have the unfortunate fortune of remembering all too well too many traumatic moments. Moments when I screamed and no one came to save me. When I screamed and the scream itself became silent to me within me. In one of those moments. The moment, I heard my Roar. That moment, I discovered that I AM S.H.E. Sapphire, Healing, Exuberant!

Human Trafficking Intervention & Prevention
Human trafficking is not just a crime against the body. It is a systematic dismantling of the nervous system, the identity, and the self-concept of every survivor. SAPPHIRE87’s intervention programming addresses the neurobiological aftermath of trafficking — the hypervigilance, the dissociation, the identity fragmentation, and the survival-based behavioral patterns that exploitation instilled. Our prevention programming educates communities, faith organizations, and partner agencies on the warning signs of trafficking, the trauma-informed response, and the healing resources available to survivors. We are a Certified Human Trafficking Professional-led organization committed to serving this population with the clinical depth and cultural responsiveness they deserve.
Inclusive & Confidential Care
All services at Sapphire87 are confidential, and inclusive of all individuals affected by sexual abuse—regardless of race, age, gender identity, nationality, faith, disability, or sexual orientation. We prioritize survivor privacy and provide trauma-informed services with compassion and cultural sensitivity. Every survivor is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Education & Awareness
SAPPHIRE87’s Education and Awareness programming extends our healing mission beyond the six-week program and into the communities where survivors live, work, and worship. We deliver trauma-informed education to survivors, families, faith communities, healthcare providers, educators, social workers, and community organizations — covering the neuroscience of trauma, nervous system dysregulation, the warning signs of domestic violence and sexual assault, trauma-informed response skills, and how to connect survivors with healing resources. Our education programming is grounded in the same evidence-informed frameworks that drive our clinical work — Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems, Emotional Intelligence, and Somatic Healing — delivered in accessible, community-centered formats that meet people where they are.
Peer Support & Trauma Counseling
Survivor-led peer support connecting participants with women who have walked the healing journey before them.
SAPPHIRE87 is not a therapy program — and we believe deeply in the power of individual therapy alongside our structured group healing curriculum. For participants who are not currently engaged in individual therapy, SAPPHIRE87 provides warm referrals to licensed clinical therapists in our partner network who specialize in trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault, and EMDR. For participants already working with a therapist, SAPPHIRE87 coordinates with their clinical provider to ensure our program complements and supports their ongoing therapeutic work. Healing is not one-size-fits-all. We meet survivors where they are and connect them to the clinical support they need.
The Roaring Resilience Program
Roaring Resilience is SAPPHIRE87’s signature six-week healing program — designed for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who are safe, but not yet free.
Over six structured weeks, participants develop the nervous system regulation tools, emotional intelligence, and self-leadership skills they need to move from survival-based functioning into regulated, intentional living.
Week 1 — Awareness: Understanding your nervous system and why your responses make sense.
Week 2 — Regulation: Building your personal toolkit for nervous system regulation.
Week 3 — Integration: Shadow work, emotional healing, and the inner peace treaty.
Week 4 — Mastery: All five domains of Emotional Intelligence applied to your life.
Week 5 — Reset: Behavioral patterns, dopamine regulation, and life skills integration.
Week 6 — Identity: Reclaiming the Sovereign Self and stepping into self-led living.
Program Options:
- 2-Week Intro Program — $1,500 (credited toward the full program)
- 6-Week Roaring Resilience Group Program — $3,700 (workbook included)
- 12-Week VIP 1:1 Program — $12,000 (workbook included)
Medicaid accepted in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia. Major medical insurance and private pay also accepted.
Pathways to Independence
The Pathway to Independence is SAPPHIRE87’s structured post-program support model designed to ensure that the healing gained in Roaring Resilience translates into lasting change in a participant’s daily life. Beginning at program graduation and continuing through a 90-day follow-up period, the Pathway to Independence connects participants with ongoing peer support, clinical referrals, life skills resources, employment and financial wellness guidance, and community connections. We know that healing is not linear and that the transition from program completion to independent self-led living requires intentional support. SAPPHIRE87 walks with survivors beyond the six weeks — because the goal was never just to complete the program. The goal was always freedom.
Advocacy & Navigation Support
SAPPHIRE87 walks alongside survivors as they navigate the systems, institutions, and resources that exist to serve them — advocating for their rights, connecting them to benefits, and ensuring that no survivor falls through the cracks because the paperwork was too overwhelming or the process too unfamiliar.
